Sustainability Policy

1. INTRODUCTION

UMS Holdings Berhad and its subsidiaries (“UMS” or “the Group”) acknowledge that sustainability is integral to our business operations. This Sustainability Policy was developed to outline the Group’s sustainability commitments.

This Policy should be read in tandem with the following documents:

  • Anti-Bribery and Corruption Policy
  • Whistle-Blowing Policy
  • Code of Conduct

2. OBJECTIVES

The purpose of this Policy is to:

(a) Incorporate the principles of sustainability into the Group’s strategies and procedures.

(b) Ensure the alignment of sustainability strategies with international frameworks.

(c) Provide strategic oversight on the sustainability-related risks and opportunities in our daily operations whilst creating long-term value for our stakeholders.

3. SCOPE

a) This Policy informs our stakeholders of how we integrate ESG in our operations.

b) This Policy is applicable to the Group, including all Directors and Employees and is communicated to all employees of the Group.

4. COMMITMENT STATEMENTS

At UMS, we are committed towards incorporating sustainability into the Group’s overall business strategy. We understand the importance of implementing sustainable practices as a distributor to various Malaysian industries. We strive to achieve right balance between providing high-value-added services to our clients, meeting the objectives of our shareholders, achieving financial success and being a responsible corporate citizen.

The Group’s sustainability initiatives are guided by three core pillars:

     4.1 GOVERNANCE

       The Group believes that a strong foundation of business ethics is vital for generating positive effects within an organisation and ensuring its longevity. Hence, the Group is committed to managing its business and operations with integrity, transparency and accountability through:

  • Conducting business with integrity, ensuring a zero-tolerance approach to corruption and bribery
  • Adhering to established policies and procedures that promote ethical behaviour and foster a culture of accountability
  • Ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards

      4.2 ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION

        Recognising our role in supporting sustainable practices, the Group is committed to mitigating its environmental impact by:

  • Assessing and managing climate-related risks and opportunities associated with our operations
  • Investing in renewable energy systems and explore opportunities to improve energy efficiency
  • Transitioning to hybrid vehicles to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and lower emissions
  • Utilising recycled paper for office purposes where applicable, reducing overall waste

       4.3 Positive Social Impact

        The Group remains resolved towards fostering positive social impact across our entire value chain, ensuring that our operations uphold the highest standards of responsibility towards our stakeholders. We strive to continuously improve our social performance by:

  • Ensuring responsible and ethical practices within our supply chain, working closely with suppliers to promote fair labour practices, human rights, and sustainability
  • Ensuring that our services meet the highest standards of quality and that customer feedback is taken into consideration in our improvement processes
  • Complying with relevant occupational health and safety laws and regulations to provide a safe workplace and environment for employees
  • Promoting fundamental human rights, inclusivity and equal employment opportunities to foster an engaged workforce

5. REVIEW AND REVISION

The Sustainability Policy is under the purview of the Board of Directors of UMS, who are responsible for overseeing the Group’s sustainability efforts. The Policy undergoes regular assessment and adjustments by the Risk Management and Sustainability Committee, with approval from the Board when needed to incorporate any changes and enhancements in accordance with industry and sustainability standards
